Do you enjoy teaching private clients? I love it and I think it is great for all teachers to include in their teaching practice!

I know some of you have stopped teaching online co

I know some of you have stopped teaching online completely, or would like to. I may be the outlier here, but I still LOVE online teaching, and here are just a few reasons why:

1. No commute! My work hours are limited now with a toddler, but I spend almost every second of my work time actually teaching.

2. I can work when I’m sick. See also: toddler parent. If I was teaching mostly in-person I would have to cancel all the time, especially with how sensitive people are now (as they should be) about being around sick people.

3. I can see so well with my big screen, I really don’t miss A THING. My connection with my students is as good as ever.

4. I can take really good notes and more easily keep track of progress and trends.

Consult calls with potential private clients are t

Consult calls with potential private clients are the place that many teachers get tripped up and there are FOUR things you need to do to have them go well enough that they go from potential clients to current clients.

#1. Think of them as a sales call. As much as you may cringe when you think of selling yoga, that is part of this process.

#2. Make it super easy for clients to schedule this part with you. If you make it too hard to schedule and they never are able to book the consult call you don’t even have a chance to tell them how helpful yoga can be for them.

#3. Get their WHOLE story and ask tons of follow up questions!

#4. Give specific examples of how a personalized yoga practice can be helpful to them. You don’t have to explain everything about the full breadth of the practice just yet, (there will be time for that later!) but right now you can focus on their specific issues. If they have trouble sleeping, tell them about a pranayama technique that helped another student sleep go back to sleep with ease. If they have plantar fasciitis, tell them about a student whose yoga practice gave them a way to move that didn’t irritate their plantar fascia. Use only TRUE examples, obviously, but specific examples are really good here!
